Review : R.I.O. - Shine On & Sunshine Album

It is not the movie or the city in Brazil but a project or a collaboration of 2 great dj's, Yann "Yanou" Peifer and Manuel "Manian" Reuter, naming it as R.I.O.. When I heard the song "Like I Love you", on my mind I was thinking that it's a great song but when I heard "Lay Down" then it cross on my mind that this R.I.O. was really good. So, without wasting any time, with my friend Google.com, I was able to gather some facts regarding R.I.O. and I was able to grab the 2 albums, Shine On and Sunshine. It's been 3 days now that I am listening on the 2 albums - morning, afternoon and night time. The songs are really cool, a twist of reggae for the lyrics while the beat and the rhythm are club or up tempo. So if you love reggae with a different beat, you must have R.I.O. on your collection of music or songs. Two thumbs up or a score of 10 for this!

By the way, "Lay Down" was on my FreshMix, it's the second track/song.

Fact :  First, they launched Cascada. America's kids sang "Everytime We Touch", and everybody in the international club scene soon knew those names - Yann "Yanou" Peifer and Manuel "Manian" Reuter. With the UK waiting for the third subsequent Top 5 album, the Cascada success story still goes on. One day in 2007, Manian & Yanou played around with the famous "Samba De Janeiro" sample, and the next day Zooland Records signed the new project "R.I.O." and their first single "De Janeiro" which became a massive club hit everywhere. Summer of 2008, the whole club world celebrated "Shine On" and "When The Sun Comes Down", having "R.I.O." top almost every dance chart on this planet - Yanou & Manian had done it again! Summer's gone, but the song's still in high demand all over the world. Now, it looks as though "R.I.O." has become more than just a project, with an enormous fans base on the internet asking for R.I.O. news. Small wonder that the amazingly talented vocalist Tony T - who you all know from the great "Shine On" video - has hardly had a free minute ever since, performing live in clubs all over Europe, and it looks like that won't change any time soon! After The Love - May 2009, after "Shine On" and "When The Sun Comes Down" have become huge radio and club anthems all over the world, nearly everybody knows about R.I.O. and what they stand for. Small wonder that their new single "After The Love", which takes its rhythmical structure out of the "Pachanga", was desperately awaited by DJ's and fans. Tony T, the charismatic singer, once again lends his voice for this highly summer flavored tune and continues his live tour around the globe. Smashin' remixes as well as a stunning video complete the package. No doubt: R.I.O. did it again.

Song of The Week : Changed The Way You Kiss Me - Example

Elliot Gleave (20 June 1982, London) , better known by his stage name Example, is an English singer and rapper. His name arose due to his initials being e.g. which is a common abbreviation for the Latin phrase "exempli gratia", which means "for example".

On 24 March 2011 "Changed the Way You Kiss Me" debuted on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World. It was released in June 5, 2011 where it debuted at number one in the UK. You can download the audio in mp3 format. Check the lyrics of the song or watch the official video on youtube.com.

One of Example's song was also on Roxas Audio Stream Club Mix Vol3 (July 2011) and that was "Two Lives", the last song on the mix. It was released on 14 November 2010, though it only peaked at 84 on the UK Singles Chart. On the other hand, it was able to peak at number 10 on the UK Dance Chart.

Want to be a DJ?

DJ - disc jockey, I am referring to the person who mixes songs in clubs or discotheque, not the one on fm stations or radios. With new technology and advance computers, we can learn how to mix music in just an hour or a day. Today, it is so easy and if you have the right equipment you can be a dj for just an hour or two, so what are the basic equipment :

This setup is what we call "in the box" because we will be using a computer and a software for mixing the music.
  •  Desktop or laptop computer - probably a dual core processor with 1gigabyte of memory, 250gigabytes of hard drive will do or you can upgrade to a much higher hard drive if your audio database is so big. You can also use an external hard drive for you audio database.
  • Audio mixing software - there are a lot of audio mixing software that you can use. Some had free trial and free to download as well. We had Virtual DJ, PC DJ, BPM Studio and many more. You could use the basic program. Important to check on this mixing program is that they have a cue button, pitch or tempo control, a crossfader panel and maybe a bpm (beats per minute) reader.
  • Headphones - this will be used for cueing  the next music to be mix.
  • MP3 music - this will be your choice of audio format for the music that will be used for mixing on your audio mixing software. Use your friend google.com to help you where to download remix or extended songs. If you had cd audios, you can try to ripped those songs to mp3s.
  • External speakers - for audio monitor, you can listen your mixed songs and check if the beat are in sync. You can add stereo amplifiers for your speakers.
Some audio mobile used this kind of setup, others used an external mixer where the laptop or desktop computer are connected.

So, if you want to give it try, give it a shot, who knows maybe next month your on the club scene and your mixing the beat.

The Beginning : DJVJ Audio Mobile

It's 2:05 in the morning, and here I am still awake, listening to 74 songs of best club music of 2011. I'm on the 53rd song which is Baby By Me by 50 Cent and Ne-yo. While listening, I remember our audio mobile before, DJVJ audio mobile. Our setup/equipment was just an audio mixer, 2 different belt-drive turntables, audio amplifier and a set of speakers. We don't have any lighting system or console, what we had was colored spotlight and some strobe light. Either we played at a disco party in a club like Bizyo or we were at 357 or Escapade. Sometimes our bass speakers got busted or the audio amplifier got overload and the fuse got busted as well. By the way, DJVJ stands for Don, Jun-jun, Voltaire and  Jay. We had big plastic crates where we put the vinyl or records, these records are organized into slow beat and fast or up tempo beat. Our first imported vinyl record was the 12" or extended mix single of Friends by Amy Stewart, we also had Too Many Walls by Cathy Dennis and the transparent vinyl 12" extended version of Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses. Other records were local, bought from any department store. We even used the small vinyl, the 45's. I wonder where are those vinyl or records right now.
Ok, I'm on the 66th song, which is Strictly Private by Jason Lee and feeling sleepy. I hope that my bayantel dsl will be online tomorrow so that Roxas Audio Stream will play again.

My Life : A 2nd Chance

Sometimes, we realize that life is so precious when something happens to us and that we are given a 2nd chance. I know this has nothing to do with music but this is my blog and I wanted to share this to everybody.

This month of June was very busy for me and those past days were very very hot. I had to go back and forth from our apartment to school then go to my clients that I maintain for computer services. Then in the afternoon I need to fetch my son at school. Also there are times that I need to be at my client because there were some computer problem on their end. I even managed to walk from Mt. Carmel to Gaisano Blvd., which was more than 1 kilometer in distance and it was at 11:30am under the scourging heat of the sun. There were times that I had headache, one advil tablet will do, sometimes it won't. By the way, I am a hypertensive person, my blood pressure shoots up (180/120 was the highest).

Last July 2, me and my friends are scheduled to leave for Manila to attend a friend's birthday party. When I woke up I did not realize or I don't have any idea that half of my left eye (the white area) was so red, it was covered with blood. There was no pain, soreness or itchiness, my vision had no problem. A day or the night before, I was coughing and sneezing hard. I was thinking that I rubbed my eye and that the redness will be gone that same day or by putting EyeMo or Visine. At the airport, I was even asked if I had sore eyes, I told them that something poked my eye. Sunday, Monday came and my left eye was still bloody red. I bought EyeMo, thinking that this would remove the redness but Tuesday came and still bloody red. Then I told myself that I will have to see a doctor back home. Wednesday, I'm back to Roxas and went to see an eye doctor.

Then the unexpected happened, the doctor diagnosed it as subconjunctival hemorrhage also known as hyposphagma, is bleeding underneath the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva contains many small, fragile blood vessels that are easily ruptured or broken. He told me that the redness will last for a week or two. Then he asked me if I was hypertensive, told him yes. He asked me if I was diabetic, said I don't know. He then checked my blood pressure, it was 180/100. He was shocked. He told me that I was lucky, that it did not rapture inside 'coz if it did then maybe I will be blind or in comatose. He advise me to have a lab test for blood sugar and lipid profile, he also advise me to take catapres just to lower down my blood pressure. Told him that I don't drink my medicine for my heart and for hypertension. Did the lab test, blood sugar was .17 higher than the normal, cholesterol and bad one are very high as well. The doctor advise me to have a diet and continue my medicine for my heart and hypertension.

When the doctor told me that I was lucky, I was smiling. He told me that I was laughing but this will make me blind or comatose. What will I do cry? I was given a 2nd chance. Lesson learned : drink your medicine and diet. It never came to my mind that this will happen to me. One friend told me that my mom guide me to overcome this. He also told me that hearing mass last Sunday at Sto. Domingo church help me overcome the problem.

Causes of subconjunctival hemorrhage:

  • Blood thinners, such as ginger, capsaicin, ginseng, garlic, aspirin, or Herba if taken in high doses or combined. These can also make the vessels in the eye more susceptible to the pressure causes listed above.
  • Diving accidents - Mask Squeeze (volume inside in mask creates increased pressure with increased depth)
  • Severe hypertension
  • LASIK
  • Leptospirosis
  • Minor eye trauma
  • Spontaneously with increased venous pressure
  • Choking
  • Coughing
  • Pulling extreme g-forces
  • Sneezing
  • Straining
  • Strenuous Exercising
  • Touching/widening eyes
  • Vomiting
  • Prolonged stress
